Neptune has a dissoluting quality to it. When it comes into contact with a Mercury in a fixed sign or when it's in especially a hard aspect with Saturn, I visualise Neptune dissolving the fixed thoughts and mental patterns of the person. So that the person's thought patterns are less rigid so that they can be reshuffled and adjusted. This can be disorienting to the person but it's a different life experience for them all right.
