I know the focus in solar return (SR) charts is the Sun. However, I have been "trained" to look at the lunar phase of the SR chart as well. Not that that takes up a big part of a SR analysis. Just a teeny winny portion of the analysis.
Personally, I don't find the moon phase at the time of a SR chart to be description of the year ahead. That is unless it's a new or full moon or nearly one at the time of the SR. A full moon indicates the culmination of something and often indicates an ending of something while a new moon indicates something new. That's nothing new here. First and 3rd quarter lunar phases in SR charts, I remain to be convinced of their value.
