Lunar Nodes - A Balance Between the Old and New

I think the traditional view of the natal south node is that it's malefic and something that we should avoid and move away from. The modern western psychological view is that we don't abandon what comes naturally to us but instead, capitalise on them whenever it's appropriate to do so and seek to develop the qualities of our North Node. In effect it's to have the best of both worlds.

If we represent these concepts using a Venn diagram which you have probably learned in school, it would look like this:

In the past, I have liken the south node to our comfort zone and the experiences offered by the North Node (natally and by transits) as widening the boundaries of our comfort zone. Now, I think it may be clearer, at least conceptually, to liken the North Node as a different and separate zone from our comfort zone i.e. South Node. This makes more sense as the experiences of the NN and SN are distinct from each other.

Now the million dollar question is: how do we encourage ourselves and our clients to be involved in another set of experiences that promise growth but may be uncomfortable or even terrifying?
